modeling of weight reduction of PET fabric as a function of NaOH concentration temperature and time and cost minimization Mehdi seifollazade ledari m seifollazade@tx iut ac ir Department of Textile engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Supervisors H Tavanai and A Z HamedaniAbstractWeight reduction is a finishing process with the aim of improving some properties ofpolyester fabrics through hydrolysis with the help of aqueous alkaline such as sodiumhydroxide The amount of weight reduction with sodium hydroxide depends on processingparameters such as concentration of sodium hydroxide treatment time and bath temperature This work is aimed at modeling of weight reduction of PET fabric as a function of NaOHconcentration temperature and time and cost minimization The experiments were designed with a full factorial approach Three levels were assigned forthe three above mentioned factors The data were gathered and their variation were analyzedas to reveal the degree of significance of each factor Next a response surface regressionmodel was established with the significant factors After the evaluation of the model we usedBox Cox method for further modification Finally by determining the cost function theprocess variables leading to minimum cost for a the predetermined weight reductionpercentage were obtained Key Words modeling weight reduction alkaline treatment polyester fabrics hydrolysis costminimization
