AbstractThe primary objective of this research is the analysis of stability and design of supporting systemfor water transfer tunnel of Vanak dam Shohadaye Cheshme Ali which is located in Gandomantown from Chahar Mahl o Bakhtiari province The goal of constructing of this dam is aboutexploiting of water of Soolegan river which is one of the important prongs of Karoon river that isled providing the agricultural water for Khan Mirza Chenar Mahmood Moonj grounds and alsofor drink water and for industries if it is possible Water transferring system of the Vanak dam iscomposed of transfer tunnel structures pipes and water pressure The water transfer tunnel have15 m3 s capacity with 3 7 m diameter 3032 m length and 2075 m above of the sea surface This tunnel transfers the additional dam water to desire places The dam path is passed through from three sections with different geomechanics properties Therefore the dam path can be divided into three parts for the analysis of stability and design ofsupporting system and the stability of each part is examined by numerical methods finiteelement and distinct element methods and experimental methods In this research the calculatedparameters for proposed supporting system are provided by classification rock engineering Then numerical modeling for each part is performed by using the geotechnical data and applying theboundary conditions in 3DEC and ABAQUS softwares All steps of the calculations areconsidered for before excavating just after excavating and after mounting the supporting systemsteps In each step all stresses and displacements around the tunnel are calculated and after theengineering examinations the best supporting system for each section is designed
