Evaluation of Moisture Stress Tolerance in Doubled Haploid Lines and Their Corresponding Breeding Lines in Triticale for Agro Morphological Traits Alireza Haghighi Haghighi ag@gmail com February 20 2010 Department of Agronomy and Plant BreedingIsfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Ahmad Arzani a arzani@cc iut ac ir AbstractDrought is one of the most important constrains to crop production worldwide Attempts to develop new cereal withhigh yield potential and stability have been conducted and triticale is the only successful case In this study 9 doubledhaploid DH and 9 corresponding F7 lines as well as two bread wheat cultivars Roshan and Kavir were evaluatedat research farm of College of Agriculture Isfahan University of Technology located at Lavark Najaf Abad in 2008 A randomized complete block design with 3 replications was used in each of two environmental conditions ofirrigation after 70 and 130 mm evaporation from a Class A pan respectively Result of analysis of variance revealedsignificant differences among genotypes for most of the studied traits with exception of grain weight per spike uppermost internode length and number of spikes per area unit The result of combined analysis of variance showedthat the water stress significantly affected of all traits Genotype by environment interaction was significant for dateto heading grain weight per spike biological yield grain yield and harvest index Under both conditions under non stress and stress condition grain yield significantly and positively correlated with number of spike per area unit number of grain per spike grain weight per spike 1000 grains weight biological yield and harvest index Moreoverunder stress condition grain yield significantly and positively correlated with length of peduncle Genetic andphonotypic coefficient of variations showed that most of traitspossessed considerable variation Broad senseheritability of grain yield under non stress and stress condition was less in comparison with other traits withexception of some traits The result of stepwise regression for grain yield as dependent trait and yield components asindependent trait showed that under non stress condition number of spike per area unit and weight of grain per spikehad major contribution in justification of grain yield Under stress conditions also number of spike per area unit andnumber of grain per spike mainly explained the grain yield The result of factor analysis indicated 4 factors undernormal and stress conditions The result of path analysis for grain yield revealed that number of spike per area unithad an important positive effect on grain yield under normal and stress conditions The result of cluster analysisshowed that under normal and stress conditions lines divided into 3 and 2 groups respectively Under normalconditions the highest genetic distance observed for doubled haploid line number 10 and F7 line number 8 Understress condition the most genetic distance were for doubled haploid line number 16 and F7 line number 8 Investigation of different drought stress tolerance indices and correlations with genotypes showed STI index was thebest index for identification oftolerant genotype According to this index F7 line number 1 was identified as superiordrought tolerant Key wordsTriticale doubled haploid moisture stress drought stress tolerance index STI index
