Quality of Gum tragacanth from Astragalus verus in relation to habitat conditions in the east and north east region of Isfahan province Behjat khademi Email b khademi2007@yahoo com Marc Department of Natural Resources Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisors M R Vahabi Vahabi@cc iut ac ir Fazilati@cc iut ac ir Abstract Iran is the main production site and growing center of different species of the genus Astragalus verus Oliver in the world Gum trgacanth is one of the most important plant gum which is exudated from the stem of Astagalus verus The gum extracted from the species has numerous applications in foodstuff cosmetics pharmaceuticals and industrial materials and processes which give it a high economic value Iran is its major producer across the whole area from the Pacific Ocean to Asia accounting for of its global production One major production site inside Iran is Isfahan Province where of its land hosts different varieties of the plant as its natural habitat around of which is the specific habitat to the genus Astragalus tragacanthus In the present study Astragal shrubs were collected from five major habitats soh varkamar kalahrod tar varpa across the northeastern and eastern regions in the isfahan Province and most important inorganic elements carbohydrates and Amino acid were specified and compared Flame photometric and atomic absorption were esed to determine the inorganic elements HPLC for carbohydrates and Amino acid analyzer for Amino acid determination The results revealed that Ca and P had the highest and the lowest quantities versus respectively in the exudates Between anino acid which were recognized and measured Hydroxyproline nmol g was the most and metionine nmol g the lest in amount rdlatively the results showed that saccharose د have the greatest carbohydrate amount in Gum trgacanth To investigate relations of quality indexs with some ecologic factors most important ecologic attributes of investigated areas were determined in three groups climate factors soil factors and physiographic factors To study existing similarity between investigated areas and classifying them quanity statistics of selected area attributes and quality index of trgacanth based on partial Euclidean distance was cluster classified with minimum variance By considering the results cluster analysis of area factors two significant habitates were specified in similarity level First habitat includes locations No and second on includes locations No and Ten climate factors average annual temperature annual mean maximum temperature annual mean minimum temperature mean monthly temperature of July and December the annual evaporation annual evapotranspiration the average annual frost days dry period and Emberger Humidity index one soil factor available phosphorus and one physiographic altitude had meaningful impact on this classification in habitat separation among Also would separate five land areas into two groups Group includes location No and and group includes location No and Regarding to statistica only quality indexes of Section insoluble proline viscosities and serine of soluble part had influence in separation of land areas To investigate habitat specifications and determining relation betweenquality indices of yallow trgacanthwith ecologic conditions of the region statistics of quality indexes in relation with selected area factors were processed by using DCA and RDA methods The effect of mineral elements on the habitats Separation places No and were in a group instead The two habitats No and sodium and potassium are the higher than other places therefore more are use of health materials The effect of sugars and viscosity on the habitats Separation No and places in a group and No and were instead of the other group Key Words Astagalus verus tragacanth quality indexs cluster analysis RDA
