Isfahan University of Technology Department of Chemistry Synthensis of polymethylene by simmons smith reagent toward polyhomologation method and Synthesis of star polymethylmethacrylate by ATRP The Session of Replying Dissertation for the Degree of Master of Science in Organic Polymer Chemistry Presentor Sanaz Heshmat Azad Place Seminar Room Supervisor Dr A Abdolmaleki Date Saturday Feb 6 11 00 am Abstract In the first project a new one pot boron catalyzed polymerization of tetrahydrotioph enium methylide has been used to prepare polymethylenes The living polymerization via the intermediacy of sulfur ylides was initiated and catalyzed by the organoborane Termination of the resulting tris polymethylene organoborane with acetic acid produced polymethylenes The reactions were used to produce polymethylenes with molecular weights in the range of 22400 268000 Da with polydispersities 1 18 In the second project At first we synthesized tetra functionalized initiator for atom transfer radical polymerisation ATRP by esterification reaction of Ethylenediamine N N N N tetra 2 propanol to produce star polymers The multifunctional initiator have been used methylmethacrylate MMA as monomer copper I complex as the catalyst in the synthesis of methyl methacrylic star polymers by atom transfer radical polymerization ATRP Under these conditions tetra arm star polymers were synthesized with high conversion low polydispersity and nearly monomo dal molecular distributions All polymers were characterized with IR NMR DSC SEM TEM methods GPC of hydrolyzed PMMA confirmed the livingness of ATRP polymerization In last part of project inorganic initiator used as a core for the synthesis of star PMMA by ATRP method The polymer was characterized with instrumental analysis methods
