Investigation of Agronomic Traits and Relationship Beween Yield and Its Components in Some Breeding Lines of Safflower Roohollah Nikfekr nikfekr64@yahoo com Submitted on Department of Agronomy and Plant Breeding Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiG Saeidi Prof Supervisor G saeidi@cc iut ac irAbstractThis study was conducted to investigate agronomic traits and the relationship betweenyield and its components in some breeding lines of safflower In this experiment 20genotypes of safflower were evaluated for different agronomic traits in a randomizedcomplete block design with three replications in 2009 at the Research Farm of IsfahanUniversity of Technology located in Falavarjan The results of analysis of varianceshowed that the genotypes were significantly different for all of the studied traits exceptfor days to emergence In this experiment seed yield of the genotypes varied from 2095to 3351 Kg ha and the lowest and highest means of seed yield was belong to A2 andC4110 genotypes respectively The seed yield for the local population of Kuseh as thecheck variety was 2628 Kg ha and 7 genotypes had significantly more seed yield thanthis populatiopn Also Kuseh population had the most means of days to maturity andplant height among the genotypes Seed oil content of the genotypes significantlydiffered and ranged from 26 03 for C4110 to 33 23 in S149 genotype Genetic andphenotypic correlation coefficients showed that number of capitula plant number ofseed capitulum were the most important seed yield components and they had the highestpositive correlation with seed yield however seed weight showed a negative geneticand phenotypic correlation with seed yield Based on the regression analysis number ofcapitula plant contributed in 66 of seed yield variation but this variable along withcapitulum diameter contributed in 74 of the variation for seed yield Path analysisshowed that capitula plant had the most direct positive effect on seed yield with nosignificant indirect effect through the other traits Also number of seeds capitulum hada high direct and positive effect and also considerable indirect effect via number ofcapitula plant on seed yield key word safflower agrojomic traits Genetic diversity correlation
