Static and Dynamic Stability Analysis of Penstock Tunnels in Roudbar Lorestan Dam Project Behnam Abrah BehnamAbrah@Gmail co m Date of Submisson 2011 03 16 Department of Mining Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Lohrasb Faramarzi lfaramarzi@cc iut ac ir Supervisor Hamid Hashemalhosseini Hamidh@ cc iut ac ir Abstract Roudbar Lorestan HPP is located on the Rudbar River in the Zagros Mountains approximately 100 km south of the town of Aligoudarz in Lorestan Province The water conveyance system consists of the headrace tunnel is arranged on the basis of one tunnel After the long headrace tunnel is the symmetrically bifurcated pipe in the tunnel After the bifurcated pipe are two long branch penstock pipes are in the horse shaped tunnel 8 m wide by 8 m height the penstock tunnel of Roudbar Lorestan dam is located in fractured rock mass with different rock types consists of Dalan Hormoz and Mila formations Sravnd Baznavid fault is located on border of Hormuz and Mila formations The geological studies in dam site area reported that the Sravnd Baznavid fault is an active fault The porpose of this project initially designed and stability analysis of temporary and permanent support system penstock tunnels under the static condition then Considering to reduce the damages Sravnd Baznavid fault Dynamic effect of earthquakes as transient and permanent displacement of the structure of the studied and evaluated Considering the variety of litology geomechanical parameters for stability analysis of tunnels is important so The sensitivity analysis has done using the 3D numerical solution by FLAC3D software Finally using the sensitivity analysis on mechanical parameters and stress ratio the reliable data of shear strength and deformability of rock masse compared with in situ and laboratory test results by numerical modeling is defined Using the rock mass classifications of RMR and Q system the rock mass along the penstock tunnels are divided into 4 zones The Dalan formation divide into class II and faulted Dalan and Hormoz and Mila formations are divided into class IV From the conditions maintain above the 3D numerical solution for supporting system by FLAC3D software proposed The support system proposed for class II consists of 5 cm pp ng ys p po uppo ys prop e installed on a 2 x 3 m grid spacing The support system proposed for class IV consists of 3 bar lattice girders embedded in a 15 cm thick shotcrete layer and 2 wire mesh 8 10 x 10 cm The lattice girders are spaced at 1 2 m intervals along the tunnel In this study the rock bolts are 4 m long standard It was concluded that the comparison between empirical rock mass classification system and 3D numerical solution has a good agreement Considering geometry and behavior of the rock mass surrounding o f penstock tunnels a three dimensional model is appropriate for analysis and design of penstock tunnels Analysis of the tunnels is done using the FLAC3D The ABAQUS software is used for modeling and analysis of the Sravnd Baznavid fault In this thesis the displacement controlled approach is used for dynamic analysis and design of the penstock tunnels located in fault zone From the stress and displacement analysis in fault zone the final support system of the penstock tunnels in fault zone is predicted Keywords Roudbar Lorestan Dam penstock tunnels stability analysis support system sensitivity analysis Geomechanical parameters transient and permanent displacement
