Preparation of Electrochemical Sensors Using Carbon Nanotubes andSome Modified Nanoparticles Application for Analysis of Biological and Pharmaceutical Compounds Using Voltammetric Methods Hassan Karimi Maleh E Mail h karimi maleh@gmail com July 11 2011 Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology 84156 83111 Isfahan IranSupervisor Professor Ali A Ensafi E Mail address Ensafi@cc iut ac irAdvisor Professor Behzad Rezaei Department Graduate Program Coordinator Professor Bijan Najafi Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Tel 98 311 3912369 Fax 98 311 3912350Abstract In this research we describe application of nonmaterial such as multiwall carbon nanotubes MWCNTs and nanoparticles such as TiO2 for modification of carbon paste electrode as a workingelectrode in the presence ionic liquid or organic inorganic mediators In continues we study electrochemicalbehavior of these modified electrodes in aqueous buffer solution using cyclic voltammetry CV chronoamperometry CA and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy EIS We used these modifiedelectrodes for determination of drug and other biological compounds in two sections In the first section wedescribe determination of thioguanine folic acid captopril hydrochlorothiazide isoproterenol cysteamine tryptophan mercaptopurine uric acid penicillamine actylcysteine acetaminophen and ascorbic acid at asurface of multiwall carbon nanotubes paste electrode modified with some suitable mediator usingelectrocatalytic mechanism In the second section we study application of ionic liquid IL modifiedelectrode in the presence of multiwall carbon nanotubes as a sensor for determination of isoproterenol andmorphine Some sensitive techniques such as differential pulse voltammetry square wave voltammetry andlinear sweep voltammetry were used for sensitive determination of above compounds alone andsimultaneously All of these modified electrodes were successfully applied to the determination of biologicalcompounds in real samples such as drug serum and urine samples Keywords Electrochemical sensors Multiwall carbon nanotubes modified electrodes and othernanoparticles Biological compounds Ionic liquid Electrocatalysis Voltammetric method
