Modeling and Analysis of the Mathematical Programming Problem in Hotel Revenue Management with Considering Customer Groups Ali Hakimian a hakimian@in iut ac ir Date of Submission 2011 06 18 Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Farimah Mokhatab Rafiei farimah@cc iut ac irAbstractThis dissertation discusses revenue management a technique that focuses on decision making that will maximizeprofit from the sale of perishable inventory units Inventory service companies with different manufacturingcompanies Units of inventory unsold in the service industries are perishable because the services can t be store Thishas caused sales service is a priority Airline hotels rail transport services cinemas and all service industries that are losing their asset value over time inorder to maximize their profits tend to use RM techniques The revenue management system to be used frequently inthe hotel industry to maximize revenues in the short time The system also incorporates deterministic and stochasticmathematical programming models that help to make the best decisions The actual revenue depends upon whichreservation system the hotel uses Today researchers and managers to better manage and increase hotel industryrevenues RM mathematical models have been considered appropriate to the industry However most research todayare using it only to manage revenues from individual travelers ignoring revenues from group travelers However group travelers can contribute to increase an hotel s revenue and to fill room that otherwise would have gone empty This dissertation divided hotel customers into a general case considering individual guests and customer groups Individual customers are divided to two types leisure and business customer Also For group demand there are twotypes of demand ad hoc and series This dissertation considered series groups that are larger in scale and aretypified by repeat travelers or consistent patterns of travel With regard to the reservation systems in the hotelindustry in order to maximize hotel revenue the proposed mathematical programming models presented Finally determine the best strategy planning models the hotel reservation policy for a period of thirty days of the reservationwill be available next month Keywords Revenue management Perishable inventory Stochastic and deterministic mathematicalprogramming Customer groups
