Simultaneous Determination of Preventive Replacement Strategy and Supply Spare Parts with Multiple Criteria Approach Sayed Mehran Hoseini sm hoseini@in iut ac ir Date of Submission 2011 20 20 Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor S Reza Hejazi Naser Mollaverdi rehejazi@cc iut ac ir naserm@cc iut ac irAbstractIncreasing importance of maintenance has resulted in interest in development and implementation of optimalmaintenance strategies in order to improve reliability of systems This will lead in failure prevention and costreduction of maintenance systems When competition in the market increases the need for high quality products rapid delivery and competitive prices will also increase and then industries try to achieve new features in theirproduction systems including automation integration and flexibility This has a direct impact on the needs ofindustries to high level efficiency Maintenance operations have become increasingly important due to their important role in keeping and improvingproduct quality safety issues spare part availability production line off costs etc Appropriate maintenancescheduling directly affects the performance of the factory Traditionally maintenance activities can be classified intotwo main types corrective and preventive maintenance Corrective maintenance is the maintenance that occurs aftersystems failure Preventive maintenance is the maintenance that is performed before systems failure in order toretain equipments in specified condition by providing systematic inspections and replacements One of the most applicable maintenance policies is preventive maintenance and preventive replacement of partsbefore failure occurrence is one of the preventive maintenance activities Different models have been proposed inthe field of preventive maintenance planning for finding optimal age replacement policies While previous studieshave focused mainly on classical cost objectives In this research we aim to present a multi objective model at thefield of preventive replacement operations Also we present a novel multi objective model for preventivereplacement over a finite planning horizon The proposed model considers different objectives and practical issues such as corrective replacement and its consequences or cost of replacement residual lifetime objective availabilityand reliability On the other hand this issue cannot be considered without considering the problem of inventorycontrol of spare parts The problem of simultaneous consideration of preventive replacement and inventory controlof parts using single and multi objective mathematical programming has been recently studied In this research acombinatorial approach using multi attribute and multi objective modeling in order to solve the problem ofdetermination of simultaneous preventive replacement and inventory control of parts is presented This approach notonly have not complexities of approaches proposed before but also can incorporate opinions of decision makers insolving the problem Also system constraints can be considered in the proposed model The multi objective modelis applicable in different industries that treat with machines which are repaired through replacing their defected partwith new spare part The presented model was solved by goal programming technique having the capability ofinformation exchange with the decision maker At the end performance of the method was demonstrated by solvinga sample problem and sensitivity of the model against each parameter was measured Keywords Preventive replacement Spare part supply Multiple criteria decision making Goal programming
