Study On The FLY Generation of Viscose Yarn During Cone Unwinding Process Seyyed Mohammad Karbalaei Tafti m karbalaeitafti@tx iut ac ir Date of Submission 5 4 2011 Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisors M Ghane m ghane@cc iut ac ir M Sheykhzade m sh110@cc iut ac irAbstract One of the characteristics of yarn which inflicts a tremendous impact on post spinningprocedures as well as the quality of the final product is the amount of fly produced in thesephases With respect to the fact that the speed of the machinery and resultantly that of the yarn isincreasingly escalating hence with the increase in the speed of the yarn there is inevitably anincrease in production of fly In pursuit of maintaining a healthy environment for the workers aswell as the promotion of quality and efficiency most of the employers are steering clear of thisissue The amount of the fly produced is to a great extent influenced by myriad of parameterssuch as physical feature of fibres yarn characteristics environmental parameters preparationconditions production speed spinning machine parameters type of the spinning system and thesubsequent phases of spinning One of the most salient examples of the above mentioned factorsinfluencing the amount of fly produced is the hairness of the yarn which refers to the fibresprojected out of the yarn With the advent of recent yarn techniques open end ring automatictwister etc along with the introduction of the new yarn structure the need for accounting for theyarn hairness as a crucial parameter in evaluating the quality of the yarn has been illuminated for instance the introduction of concentrated spinning system is a flamboyant example Thelongitudinal distribution of yarn hairness and the hairness parameter of premier machine areimportant factors in hairness In this study the viscose roving was used as the raw material Thenusing the ring machine 25 samples of different count and twist were spun For each sample 9bobbins were provided out of which 4 were tested in premier machine and their hairnessincluding the number of fibres in different longitudinal domains was calculated along with thepremier hairness parameter Later the remaining 4 bobbins were unwound inside the co unwinding machine where the direction of yarn passage prevents the yarns from spreading andthe separated fibres were placed on the slide soaked with slide oil and then the collections werescanned with scanners The scanned photos were initially read using Mathlab image processingand subsequently by binary rendition of the images selection of appropriate shareholding and
