137 A Model Driven Approach towards Adaptive Service Selection and Service Identification in Service Oriented Architecture Seyed Alireza Hajimirsadeghi a hajimirsadeghi@ec iut ac ir Date of Submission 2011 05 30 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Mohammad Ali Montazeri montazeri@cc iut ac ir Advisor Mohammad Davarpanah Jazi mdjazi@cc iut ac ir Abstract With the excessive growth of complex information systems operating in dynamic environments the needfor managerial policies to conduct such systems is an essence Moreover software engineering challenges aremoving towards design and implementation of robust software systems self adaptive software systems and ingeneral systems that can adapt themselves to changing customer s requirements and stochastic environmentalvariables Service Oriented Architecture SOA is introduced to address these issues For this means SOAhas brought about new concepts such as services dynamic binding loose coupling and well definedinterfaces together to present a new paradigm in which adaptation and quality of services QoS arehighlighted SOA must provide adaptation techniques in order to guarantee quality of service in case ofservices being unavailable unreachable or working with a lower rank in comparison with their acclaimedQoS To be able to do so SOA must be enriched by a feature called self adaptation Self adaptive softwaresystems are those who can adapt themselves with the changes in system environments and costumer s needs These systems follow a strategy first designed by IBM Corporation which uses a feedback along with acontroller element The controller element consists of a monitor to detect symptoms an analyzer to analyzewhat has been monitored a planner to plan for changes based on analysis and an executer to effect thechanges through system While many recent researches focused on presenting adaptive SOA which operatesin run time this thesis tries to answer the main question Is there a framework or a set of them whichsupports the discovery selection adaption and monitoring of services based on the Quality of Service Toreach the answer of this question a framework named MQA SOA Multilevel QoS Aware Service OrientedArchitecture is presented which performs several adaptation methods to guarantee and control QoS in bothrun time and design time MQA SOA as its name suggests operates in two separate phases of SOA modelingphase maintenance and deployment phase In maintenance and deployment phase two conventionalconcepts service consumer and service broker are refined in order to be able to send receive and storefeedbacks Service consumers make use of these feedbacks to update their service trees another extensionof service consumers which enables them to effectively select the services with optimum QoS Service treesare constructed based on red and black tree structure due to its quick operations In modeling phase a novelmodel driven method for service identification is introduced which identifies business aligned servicesregarding feedbacks from run time The method is called AQA BASIM Adaptive QoS Aware BusinessAligned Service Identification Method because it uses the data from run time to identify services with theoptimum granularity and network bandwidth adaptively AQA BASIM accepts business process and CRUDmatrix as inputs and present business aligned services in a semi automated approach The output of AQA BASIM is then used in maintenance and deployment phase of MQA SOA To verify the presentedframework and the new service identification method a case study in banking environment is defined and theresults of simulation is compared with other approaches which automatically identify services Keywords Service Oriented Architecture Self Adaptive Systems Service Identification DynamicService Selection
