Studies of Lithogeochemical geophysical exploration delineation Hydrothermal Alteration using Aster satellite imagery data of Zefre porphyry copper Index Somayeh Moeinifar Mah moeinifar88@gmail com 2011 11 02 Department of mining engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language Farsi1 Seyyed Hassan Tabatabaei Tabatabaei@cc iut ac ir2 Hooshang Asadi Harooni Hooshang@cc iut ac irAbstract Zefreh Cu Mo prospect is located in 75 km northeast of Isfahan and 20 km north of the Zefreh village It islocated in the main porphyry Cu belt of Iran Orumiye Dokhtar volcanic arc and may have high potential forfurther exploration Therefore identification of controls on mineralization are required In the presentresearch the study was originally designed to process Aster satellite imagery data to map hydrothermalalterations After ensuring the presence of alteration systems geological geochemical and geophysical studieswas performed to map other mineralizing controls at the prospect Aster images were processed using false color composite RGB band ratio principal componentsanalysis PCA and least squares regression LS Fit methods and then argillic phyllic propylitic alterationzones as well as iron oxides were identified In order to prepare 1 5000 geological map Aster VNIR RGBimages were used as base map followed by field checking and taking fifteen rock samples from outcrops forpetrographic and mineralogical studies Microscopic and petrography inspections of the samples showed thatthe study area is mostly covered by dacite porphyry diorite granodiorite porphyry andesitic lavas andhydrothermal tuff breccias Study of polished thin sections under the normal microscope showed minerals such pyrite sericite kaolinite hematite goethite magnetite tourmaline biotite and hornblende Five main types ofalterations such as phyllic potassic argillic propylitic and silica were confirmed in this study A systemic geochemical survey applied in the area by taking 235 chip samples within interval ranges of 50 50 inby ICP method for 44 elements Basic statistical analyses and anomaly separation methods such as P N 2 the central part of the prospect and 150 150 in surrounding part Sample were analyzed at Zarazma laboratorygap statistics and fractal were used in this research The model utilized in fractal method was concentrationarea Then multivariate studies of cluster and factorial analyses were performed to prepare differentgeochemical anomaly maps Two IP RS geophysical profiles were applied at the phyllic alteration and brecciazones using pole dipole electrode method The IP RS signatures confirmed the presence of a sulfide zone at thedepth of 40 meters On the basis of integrated analyses of remotely sensed data surface geochemical anomalies IP RS geophysical signatures and surface geological evidences Mineralization at Zefreh prospect wereconsidered as Cu Mo porphyry type and the location dip and depth of 4 borehole were proposed for test drilling Key words Zefreh Porphyry copper remote sensing fractal multivariate statistics inversemodeling
