Ferrocenes Spectroscopic and Electrochemical Properties Spin Crossover and Glucose Sensor Zahra Dehbanipour z dehbanipoor@ch iut ac ir Date of Submission 2011 05 18 Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Hassan Hadadzadeh hadad@cc iut ac irAbstractOrganometallic complexes especially some transition metals complexes of ferrocene andsubstituted ferrocenes have attracted considerable interest in recent years because of their uniqueoptical electrical and magnetic properties Ferrocene derivetives are important organometalliccompounds specially as building blocks for catalysts new pharmaceuticals and polymers Theyare generally prepared from simple functionalized ferrocenes such as ferrocenyl ketones oraldehydes ferrocene carboxylic acides ferrocenecarboxaldehyde and etc Ferronecarboxaldehyde is generally prepared by the direct Vilsmeier Haackformylation offerrocene with phosphorus oxychloride in the present of N N dimethylformamide Interest hasbeen focused on Schiff base functional group because of its thermal stability electricalconduction and photoconduction Ferrocene derivatives with good donor abilities i e nitrogen have attracted much interest as the coordination of a metal to these heteroatoms In this project ferrocenyl Schiff base was synthesized by the condensation of ferrocenecarboxaldehyde withdifferent aromatic amines under controlled conditions Because of interesting applications offerrocene and its derivatives In this project several new ferrocenes I Fc CH N C6H4 N CH Fc V Fc CH N C6H4 N2 C6H4 N CH Fc II Fc CH N C6H5 C6H2 C2O N CH Fc VI Fc CH N C6H4 N2 C6H5 III Fc CH N C6H4 SO2 C6H4 N CH Fc VII Fc CH N C6H4 C16H14 N O 2 IV Fc CH N C6H4 O C6H4 N CH Fc have been synthesized by condensation reaction of ferrocenecarboxaldehyde with aromaticamines The complexes I VII heve been characterized by IR 1H NMR and UV Visspectroscopies and cyclic voltammetry The sharp and relatively intense band in the 1613 1702cm 1 region for all seven complexes is assigned to @ C N of the formed imine bond Due tocondensation of C O group of the starting material ferrocenecarboxaldehyde with NH2 group
