Analysis and Simulation of Information Dissemination with Rate less Coding Method in Grid Vehicular Ad hoc Networks Under Pseudo actual Conditions Mostafa Asgharpoor Salkuyeh m asgharpoorsalkuyeh@ec iut ac ir September 5 2011 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiDr F Hendessi Supervisor hendessi@cc iut ac irAbstractVehicular ad Hoc networks VANETS have received considerable attention during recent years Manydifferent applications are considered for VANETs but the problem of disseminating information is one of themost fundamental ones in this research area Dissemination of non safety contents especially multimediacontents is investigated in this work This kind of dissemination is applied due to commercial purposes VANETs are vulnerable to partitioning problem due to vehicles high velocity We have used Store Carry Forward method for solving this problem Data dissemination in VANETs can be accomplished using RoadSide Units RSUs or mobile nodes vehicles Vehicles can communicate with both RSUs and vehicles intheir coverage area The radius of signal coverage area for each vehicle is assumed to be 250 meters RSUsare some infrastructures positioned in different parts of the city due to coding and disseminating commercialmessages The main aim of data dissemination in VANETs can be specified with respect to the content ofdisseminated data Disseminated messages have multimedia contents Consequently a large amount of datashould be propagated throughout the network High speed and unstable channel conditions are two wreckerparameters in VANET area so we tried to mitigate the offensive effect of these two parameters with utilizingrate less coding scheme combined with Store Carry Forward method The distance between a vehicle in thepoint in which it has decoded the message and the source of the message is called Decoding Distance Themain aim of this work is to find a suitable amount for Decoding Distance with respect to the applied rate lesscoding scheme A maximum message capacity is considered for vehicles approaching vehicle parameters tothe reality It is assumed that vehicles can utilize a discarding method providing enough free space for thenewly received packets Two different discarding methods are analyzed in the 3rd season One of these twoschemes is applied to simulations and the effect of this method is investigated in the simulation results RSUscan change their message content during simulation period and the effect of this alternation in vehiclesbehavior is investigated It is obvious that decoding a message is valuable until there remains the chance ofinvestigating and decision making about that message So greater distance of the message source in momentof decoding results in better evaluation and decision making periods of time The effect of some otherimpressive parameters like speed number of required packets for decoding process and rate of broadcastingpackets by RSUs is investigated Finally the pattern of disseminated data around each RSU is derivedthrough the simulation results Keywords vehicular networks Road Side Units buffer limitation discarding packets of buffers rate lesscoding scheme
