80 Determining the Potential Habitat of Astragalus gossypinus in Isfahan Province Hamed Sangoony Email Address H Sangoony@gmail com 19 Sep 2011 Department of Natural Resources Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisors Hamidreza Karimzadeh Karimzadeh@cc iut ac ir Mohammadreza Vahabi Vahabi@cc iut ac ir AbstractAstragalus gossypinus is one of the important medicinal and industrial plants native to Isfahan province whichthe best kind of Katira is being extracted from it In recent years its overexploitation for medicinal and industrialapplication as well as livestock overgrazing on natural ecosystems has led to surface soil destruction and itsseedling stands deterioration So that Astragalus gossypinus population has declined intensively in Isfahanprovince rangelands One of the main and vital approaches of its rehabilitation of this species is to its plantationand proliferation in isolated rangelands and correct plantation site selection is one of the most importantprinciples for success in range species plantation project Ingoing investigation was conducted out in order todetermination of Astragalus gossypinus potential habitat in Isfahan province rangelands For this EcologicalNiche Factor Analysis and Analytic of Hierarchy Process methods whose applications in recent years werepopular on desirable habitat modeling were applied To do this firstly 20 and 21 environmental factors wereprovided and developed for ENFA and AHP approaches respectively By investigation of relationship betweenenvironmental factors and canopy cover and density characteristics of Astragalus gossypinus in AHP method itsmain habitats indices at present habitats where they are remnant were studied and determined The mostimportant indices data layers and environmental factors were prepared in GIS software and in terms of ordinationanalysis output were divided to appropriate and inappropriate sections based on habitat proportion by Booleanlogic In order to determine each of these layers importance data knowledge and Eigen vector lengths were usedin ordination diagrams Eventually the potential habitat of this species was recognized by layers integration inAHP model frame and having reclassification Astragalus gossypinus potential habitat classes map wereproduced The accuracy of produced map was validated by matching the regions with high habitat suitability toAstragalus gossypinus present habitats in Isfahan province that s 79 5 percent confirmation between these twomaps indicating high precision and accuracy of exerted model In ENFA approach after entering environmentaldata layers to BIOMAPPER software and get ensuring data normality and lack of correlation between them ecological niche factor analysis approach was exerted by this software and converted to Astragalus gossypinuspotential habitat map in Isfahan province using distance Harmonic mean algorithm Specialization marginalityand tolerance criteria were calculated as 3 574 1 053 and 0 282 respectively Boyce index deduced for thisapproach accuracy validation this index value for produced map by ENFA was 84 percent that is completelyacceptable As whole environmental factors including annual precipitation number of frost days slope aspect soil potassium value sand and clay percent and soil alkalinity value were introduced as the most importantfactors affecting on Astragalus gossypinus habitat by statistical analysis Keywords Potential habitat Astragalus gossypinus Analytic hierarchy process AHP Ecological Niche Factor Analysis ENFA Geographical information system GIS Isfahanprovince
