Impact Assessment of Agricultural Activities on Heavy Metals Accumulation in Hamedan Province Soils Ali Shahbazi Email address ali shahbazi iut@gmail com 21 11 2011 Department of Natural Resources Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 93111 IranDegree M Sc Language Persian Supervisor Dr Alireza Soffianian Email address soffianian@cc iut ac irAbstract Use of chemical fertilizers pesticides and sewage sludge in agriculture lands caused increase of heavymetals concentration in the soils in the many parts of the world Between different soil pollutants heavy metalshave a high level of importance Heavy metals not only directly affect chemical characteristics reduction inbiological activities and biologic access to nutrient elements in soil but also considered as a serious danger tohuman health by entering to food chain Thus stunding accumulation trend for soil pollution monitoring ofheavy metals in indisoensible for maintaining the environment guality and should be cosidered at differentlevels of dicision making by researches and managers The aim of this study is comparing metal concentrationsof cadmium cobalt chromium copper nickel and lead in different cultivation archaism lands and impactassessment of agricultural activities duration on heavy metal accumulation trend and and assessment of soilpollution in different region was using contamination factor index Therefore by different satellite imageryduring different years and deliberation of vegetation in each image sites with different cultivation archaism butsame bedrocks alluvial have been chosen Sampling has been done in 6 sites including 2 sites in Nahavand Hamedan 2 sites in Kabudarahang Famenain and 2 sites in Razen Shirinsoo which have an agriculturearchaism approximately 65 35 20 years respectivly 97 soil samples were taken by systematic method fromagriculture fields Also 12 samples were taken from intact sites as control points The concentration of heavymetals and some soil parameters such as EC pH the percentage of organic matter sand silt and clay wereanalysed To compare concentration of heavy metals in farms with different cultivation archaism we usedANOVA and LSD test To determine trend in metals concentration Kendall and Spearman tests were used Comparison of different cultivations showed that the concentration of heavy metals in the soil under 65 yearscultivation were more than soil under 35 years cultivation which were higher than soil under 20 yearscultivation Also the mean concentration of all metals in different cultivations were more than meancocentration at control points The results showed a significant difference for all metals except Pb between 65years cultivation archaism and control points and also there was a significant difference between 35 yearscultivation archaism and control point for some metals Cr Cu and Zn The concentration of Cr 43 3 Cu 31 52 and Cd 31 15 has had more amplification from other heavy metals during 65 years The heavymetal accumulation trend in soil under 65 years cultivation for Cd Co Cr and Cu was exponential but thispattern was quadratic for Ni and linear for Pb The results of contamination factor also showed that cultivationswith more archaisms have higher risk than heavy metals contamination Also based on calculatedcontamination factor the soils which considered as none and none to medium pollution classes were generallyfound in the lands with more length of cultivation Keywords Hamedan province Soil pollution Heavy metal accumulation trend Agricultural activities Contamination factor
