Analysis on Abstract Segal Algebras Saman Ghaderkhani s ghaderkhani@math iut ac ir 30 Nov 2011 Master of Science Thesis Department of Mathematical Sciences Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranSupervisor Dr Rasoul Nasr Isfahani isfahani@cc iut ac irAdvisor Dr Saber Naseri sabernaseri2008@gmail comAMS subject classi cation 43A07 43A20 46H05Key words Banach algebra Abstract segal algebra Segal algebra Tensor product Multiplier Approximate unit Approximate identity Bounded Approximate identity Amenable Banach algebra Approximately weakly amenableAbstract Let A be a Banach algebra In this thesis we want to analysis various notions on certain classof Banach algebra that called Abstract Segal algebra First we study this larger class of Banachalgebra then we establish the relation between the existance of an approximate identity for Banachalgebras and the abstract Segal subalgebras In addition we obtain the comprehensive conculosionabout the ideal of abstract Segal algebras Beside we will investigate the projection Tensor productsof two abstract Segal algebras Let B B and B B be an abstract Segal algebras of A and Arespectively Set CB sup b a De ne CB and MB similarly We are interested B A to know when B B B B can be viewed as a abstract algebra of A A The main problem to overcome is to determine when B B can be embeded into A A However by passing to a quotientspace we can avoid this downfall Moreover we de ne the Segal algebras Segal algebras are denseideais of group algebras of locally compact groups which constitute Banach algebras with respect tosome norms and have some homogeneous structures Since H Reiter introdued this notion in 1965 many interesting and important results on Segal algebras have been accumulated It is interestingthat some properties of group algebras are hereditary in Segal algebras but other s are not Segalalgebras may be regarded as generalizations of group algebras On the other hand a generalizationof the notion of Segal algebras to a notion on more general Banach algebras are attempted by J T Burnham and otheres It is well known that every Segal algebra on G is an abstract Segal algebra but we show that the converse is not true In addition we proof that every Segal algebra has anapproximate identity and having L norm equal to 1 Furthermore we investigate the multipliers and the ideal of this class of group algebras Also we introduce other generolization of Segal algebrasthat Cigler put forward in his paper the normed ideals in L G At last but not least we will study amenability particulary approximately weakly amenability of abstract Segal algebras Besidewe prove that if G is a compact group then for the abstract Segal subalgebra L G of L G The notions of approximate weak amenability and weak amenability are equivalent to niteness of G Thiscontradict remark 3 4 of the article approximate weak amenability derivations and Arens regularityof Segal algebras which was written by Ghahramani and Lau
