Impact of Industrial Areas on Development of Rural Regions A Case of Farahan Industrial Site Iran Soodeh Golabi Email address soodehg88@gmail com Date of Submission 2011 12 24 Department of Rural development Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Mohammad Sadegh Ebrahimi Ebrahimi ms@cc iut ac irAbstractThe study survey the Impact of industrial areas on Development of rural regions Farahan industrial site hasplayed a significant role in providing employment opportunities for rural population located near industrial site Moreover Farahan industrial site has also improved the quality of life among nearby villagers Therefore thepurpose of this survey research was to investigate the impact of industrial sites on development of rural regions In present research field study section the study was with field research approach and the questionnaires Questionnaire was designed for industrial workers and rural people the validity of research tool was obtained byidea of experts and for reliability of questionnaires a pilot test was conducted Cronbach Alpha coefficient ofhigher than 0 7 showed that research tool is reliable Statistical populations were two groups namely ruralpeople and industrial workers Whit Cochrane formula Using simple random sampling 236 industrialemployees and with influence of the industrial town on the rural areas 245 sample of villagers were selected forthe study A researcher made questionnaire was used to collect data Descriptive and inferential statistics such asFrequency Percentage Mean CV Factor analysis McNemar Wilcoxon Kruskal Wallis and Mann WhitneyTests were used to data analysis The result of factor analysis revealed that economic social and skeletal factorsexplained 61 of industrial impact on rural development The result of this study suggested for ruraldevelopment practitioners that more environmental friendly industrial should be established in rural areas inorder to bring about development for nearby villagers Among the variables of research showed that the viewpriority of industrial workers for impact of rural industrialization were impact of industrial sites on job creationin rural area increased motivation to stay in Farmahin raising the income of rural people improved peasantincome increase travel increase insurance creation of temporary employment reconstruction of housing increased motivation to stay in rural improvement of building materials development services developlearning skills development of artistic activity development exercise improve roads While in villager viewpriority the impact of rural industrialization were impact of industrial sites on job creation in rural area increased motivation to stay in Farmahin raising the income of rural people development services increaseinsurance creation of temporary employment increased motivation to stay in rural improvement of buildingmaterials improved peasant income improve roads develop learning skills development exercise increasetravel development of artistic activity Moreover with use of Mann Whitney tests between fifteen variables result showed that there are significant differences in the level 99 percent probability between two groups ofrural people and employee s industrial sites view in the impact of industrial sites to increased income inagricultural sector Improved peasant income Also there are significant differences in the level 95 percentprobability between two groups of rural people view and employee s industrial sites in two variables the impactof industrial sites to increase population travels and creation of temporary employment Keywords Industrial town Rural development Industrial site Farahan
