Growth and Feeding Habits of Stripped Piggy Pomadasys stridens in Northern Part of Persian Gulf Bushehr Elham Katiraei E Katiraei@ Gmail com Date of Submission Department of Natural Resources Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Nasrollah Mahboobi Soofiani N M Soofiani@cc iut ac ir Seyed Aminallah TaghaviMotlagh S taghvimotlagh@hotmail com AbstractIn this study The feeding habits age and growth of the Pomadasys stridens Forsskal in theNorthern part of Persian Gulf Bushehr Province were investigated between May to April Inthis regard specimens were analyzed Total length of female ranged from to cm and male to cm Also the weight of female fishes were from to gr and in the male fishes were rangedfrom to gr The average of relative length of gut RLG index obtained According to thegeneral average value of vacuity index VI obtained that was obtained about for allspecimens Pomadasys stridens was classified as a relatively hypoalimentative fish The maximum stomachfullness index SFI values were obtained in June and April Results of stomach content analysis showedthat the diet composition of Pomadasys stridens was consisted of different pray items belonging to major taxonomic groups The most abundant and important pray items were Crustacea Amphipoda Cummacea and Decapoda Mollusca Gastropoda and Bivalvia and Miscellaneous species Frequencyoccurrence and numeric calculated for different food groups showed a significant differences betweenseasons P It s appears that body size and sex didn t have an important effecte on diet compositionin this species therefore the Pomadasys stridens feds on awide range of pray items and could beconsidered a carnivorous and euryphagous predator Age groups in both sexes in P stridens were estimatedto be between to years were estimated The most frequent age groups were and in male andfemales Respectively The weight length relationships was described as W L r n for f e m a l e s W L r n f o r m a l e s a n d a n dW L r for total population According to the values of b both sexes
