92 Multi period Lot sizing in the parallel machines regarding overtime and subcontract Farimah karam f karam@in iut ac ir Date of Submission 03 03 2012 Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisors naser mollaverdi naserm@cc iut ac irAbstract The production planning problem is common to many production systems and typically impliesassigning the required tasks to the available resources Given its combinatorial nature the planning problemwhich consists in determining the number of products to be produced in a set of parallel machines is oftenvery difficult to solve optimally this is especially true when additional factors such as setup times must beconsidered Determination of a production planning for the allocation of limited resources in during the timefor group of activities as one of the key success factors in any manufacturing organization of goods andservices has important and effective role Due to done research extensive model used in the any productionplanning problem based on the objectives and characteristics of each manufacturing system is different One of basic assumption in more studies on the problems of lot sizing and production scheduling isadherence to the factory obligations to satisfy all demands of customers while due to capacity constraints itmay not be possible One of approach to achieve this important topic is considering overtime and subcontracts that both methods typically are done at a cost higher than production cost In this thesis withconsidering setup costs product variety batch production on the set of non identical parallel machines andthere are also manufacturing periods for implement manufacturing process to satisfy demand in each periodwith considering warehousing costs effort has been done to closer model to the real situation The problemat hand basically consists in determining the number of units of each product to be manufactured in a set ofparallel machines and incorporates both intra and inter family setup times As such it is a problem ofproduction planning and scheduling for a system of machines in parallel Also due to reduce productioncosts group technology assumptions and considering possibility of preparation transference betweenperiods added to the model for batches of manufacturing and the other hand with considering overtime andsubcontracts is satisfied possibility of achieve the goal to supply the demand in each period despiteproduction capacity constraints Other important constraints are include the capacity of the machinery accessible to workers during overtime boundaries of the production rate and subcontracts in each period In addition to the construction of a mixed integer mathematical programming model based onassumption existing and provide exact method for solving it two different and efficient metaheuristicmethods is presented for solving large scale which in comparison with the exact solution have solutions theappropriate In terms of quality and solving time The first method is based on genetic algorithm and secondbased on simulated annealing method In the end both methods compared with the exact solution obtainedfrom the GAMS software and the results show that both methods are appropriate in terms of quality andsolving time Keywords Production planning parallel machine setup cost time Subcontracing Metahuristic Algorithms
