Phytochemical properties and habitat characterization Verbascum songaricum schrenk in northern slopes of the central Zagros Vahid karimian Email address V karimiyan@na iut ac ir Sep 19 2012 Department of natural Resources Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83 11 IranDegree M Sc Language Persian Supervisors Mohamad reza Vahabi vahabi@cc iut ac ir Mohammad Fazilati fazilati@cc iut ac ir Abstract Iran is of a very rich climate For this reason and other special geographic factors varied plants grow inthis country that are of important therapeutic features Here the central Zagros is the core of Iran s geneticpool Kohgiloyeh Boyer Ahmad as well as Isfahan provinces contain a variety of medical and industrialplants including the genus verbascum speciesVerbascumsongaricumSchrenk In this study this species wascollected from 5 of its settlements HowzVally Gahiz Semeiroomintrance and Ghadam palace in Isfahanprovince as well as Dena in Kohgiloye Boyer Ahmad province Then the most important chemicalcompounds extracted from its flowers and stem were defined and compared In addition another species VerbascumcheirantifoliumBIOss was sampled as the control species for the comparisons made For this digestion method was used for juice extraction and GC MS set for defining chemical compounds The resultsshowed that according to categorized chemical compounds indifferent organs of the plant flower leaf andstem in the mentioned rangeland sites we can see the maximum 51 39 percent hydrocarbon compounds atthe third site and the minimum2 8 Ketonamountat the same site There was no amine compound at 3th and5th sites and no keton compound at the 4th site At the 4th site the maximum leaf compounds were specified to50 43 percent hydrocarbon and the minimum one to 2 percent amine Furthermore no amine was seen in the3th and 5th sites At the 5th site the maximum stem compounds were specified to 34 6 percent hydrocarbonand the minimum one to 3 percent amine in the 4th site Furthermore no ketone was seen in the5th sites Toinvestigate the similarity among the studied areas and their categorization the quantitative information of 22selected environmental factors and 18 qualitative indices of the species were branched categorized accordingto relative Euclidean index as well as the least variance method According to the branched analyzes 3settlements were defined through 91 percent similarity level The first settlement contains the 1th and the 2thstudy areas the second settlements contains the 3th and the 4th ones and the third one contains the 5th and the6c ones Among the 22 environmental factors 2 soil parameters showed significant influence on thementioned categorization of the settlements In addition the results obtained from branched analyzes of thespecies qualitative indices were defined in 85 percent of similarity level for the 4 important settlements Thefirst second third and the forth settlements contained the 1th 5th 6c 3th and the 2th 4th study areas respectively According to the obtained results just 4 indices of the species were of influence on definingthe range land places To investigate the settling features and relations among qualitative indices of thespecies with ecological circumstances of the area 18 qualitative indices of the species in relation with 22selected environmental factors were processed and ordination was done using cluster analysis RDA Theresults showed that the rangelandsare located in 2 important settlements The first one 1 th 3th and the 5th was significantly influenced by factors including sea elevation distance mean annual precipitation glacialdays cation exchange capacity soil nitrogen and organic material The second settlement 2thand 4th wasinfluenced by factors like potential evapotraspiration annual min and max temperature degree soil clay pHand lime According to climatic circumstances soiland the physiographic features it seems that mullen juicein its settlement having an elevated height from sea level and a s
