Modeling Colour Emotion Components in the Dimentional Approach of Emotion Minoo Rostami rostami minoo@yahoo com Date of Submission Department of Textile Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor s Name Dr H Izadan Email izadan@cc iut ac irAbstract The objective of this research is to develop a relationship between colour and emotion To do it fortyobservers with normal vision were asked to judge twenty single colours on 10 colour emotion scales namelywarm cool active passive like dislike clean dirty fresh stale modern classical heavy light hard soft tense relaxed masculine feminine Using categorical judgment the observation data transformed into z scores and then the effect of gender for men and women and cultural from Isfahan and not from Isfahan were investigated It was shown that there is no statistically significant effect of gender and cultural in all thescales but like and dislike scale Also the relationships between each of the 10 scales and the colourattributes i e lightness and chroma and hue were scrutinized Furthermore the z scores data and the colourattributes of the 20 single colors were feed into the Li Chen Ou and Sato colour emotion models to find outthe performance of the models It was shown that the performance of the Li Chen Ou models for the heavy light and warm cool is fairly good but Sato models the performance is relatively good for heavy light andhard soft scales Finally using factor analysis technique the principal components of the 10 colour emotion scales wereextracted and were compared with the Li Chen Ou world color emotion scales The results showed that forthe Iranian color emotion scales there are three principal components named colour activity colour weightand colour heat but the relation of these principal components and the 10 color emotion scales is not similarto the Li Chen Ou one Key Words Colour emotion Colour attributes Principal component of colour emotion Z score Factor analysis
