Auxiliary Variables in Adaptive Two stage Sequential Sampling Bardia Panahbehagh bardia p@math iut ac ir January 8 2013 Doctor of Philosophy Thesis Department of Mathematical Sciences Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Supervisor Prof Mohammad Salehi salehi m@cc iut ac ir Supervisor Dr Afshin Parvardeh a parvardeh@sci ui ac ir Advisor Dr Ali Reza Nematollahi nematollahi@susc ac ir Department Graduate Program Coordinator Dr Hamidreza Z Zangeneh Department of Mathematical Sciences Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Department of Statistics University of Isfahan Isfahan Iran Department of Statistics University of Shiraz Shiraz Iran AbstractIn this thesis we will investigate role of auxiliary variables in the both stages of designingand estimating unknown parameters of a population under adaptive designs particularlyadaptive two stage sequential sampling The role of auxiliary variable is rst investigated inthe design stage and we then use the auxiliary variable in the estimating stage for Regressionand Ratio estimators To construct Regression and Ratio estimators we rst assumed themean of population for auxiliary variable is known Eliminating this assumption we then in troduce a new design by incorporation Double sampling and Two stage sequential sampling Having fair comparisons among sampling designs a cost function is introduced Expectednumbers of observed rare units are computed for adaptive and conventional designs In orderto strengthen adaptive designs we extended Two stage sequential sampling to include morethan one condition We develop a new e cient estimator for this design and its asymptoticproperties will be investigated Finally the role of auxiliary variables in one the most e cient adaptive design will be inves tigated Also some written R codes related to simulation in adaptive designs are presentedas an appendix in the thesis
