65 Preparation and characterization of novel biodegradable poly amide imide containing pyridin group and investigation of synergetic effect of organoclay and titanium dioxide on polymer matrix Hesan Ayatollahi hesan ayatollahi@gmail com 20 November 2012 Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Prof Shadpour Mallakpour E mail mallak@cc iut ac ir mallak777@yahoo com mallakpour84@alumni ufl edu Abstract In this project a series of novel chiral and biodegradable poly amide imide s PAI s based on different amino acids were synthesized For this purpose at first trimellitic anhydride and L amino acids S valine L alanine L isoleucine L methionine have been used for the preparation of optically active diacids These diacids react with 3 5 diamino N pyridin 3 yl benzamide via direct polycondensation by using the molten tetrabutylammonium bromide TBAB as a green solvent instead of conventional organic solvents and used triphenyl phosphite TPP as a condensing agent The resulting PAIs were obtained in good yield and exhibited inherent viscosities ranging from 0 31 to 0 46 dL g The chemical structure of polymers was confirmed by FT IR 1H NMR spectroscopy elemental analysis and specific rotation Thermal properties of polymers were studied by TGA curves In the next project biological and biodegradability properties of synthetic monomers and polymers were investigated In the end project novel series of PAI organoclay TiO 2 nanocomposites NC s has been synthesized At first PAI containing phenylalanine amino acid was synthesized via direct polycondensation of N N pyromellitoyl bis phenylalanine diacid with 4 4 diaminodiphenylsulfone Then different percentages of TiO2 nanoparticle and organoclay were added to PAI The nanostructures and properties of the PAI organoclay TiO2 NCs were investigated using FT IR XRD FE SEM and TEM techniques TGA results indicated that the addition of organoclay and TiO 2 into the PAI matrix increases in the thermal decomposition temperatures of the resulted BNCs Keyword poly amide imide chairal biodegradable nanocomposite
