Dispersion Modeling of NOx and SO2 in Phase 9 and 10 of South Pars Oilfield Maryam Rouhi Kerigh m rouhikerigh@na iut ac ir January 23 2013 Department of Natural Resources Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 8311 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiDr Hossein MoradiAbstractToday air pollution is a big problem from health and environmental point of view So the attention to airpollution control is increasing as the knowledge about the emission sources are increasing Air pollutiondispersion modeling can be used as a controlling procedure Besides potential health and environmental impactsof highly industrialized areas like Assaluyeh are great concerns to locals managers and policy makers In thisstudy NOx and SO2 emissions from stacks and flares located in phases 9 and 10 of South Pars Gas Field weremodeled using AERMOD View TM The modeling process was performed in an area about 410 km2 for to bothnormal and emergency operations AERMOD View TM was used to estimate the maximum potentialconcentration of these pollutants over 1 h 3 h 8 h 24 h month and annual averaging periods Then thepredicted concentrations were compared with Air Quality Standards The results showed that Predictedmaximum concentrations were exceeded all the SO2 threshold limits and predicted maximum NOxconcentrations did not exceed annual standards in Normal operation In Emergency operation predictedmaximum concentrations of both pollutants exceeded the standards Also by observing the location of thesensitive ecosystems like mangroves and coral reefs it is indicated that these ecosystems are exposed to theleast predicted concentration However many studies showed that even in exposure by lower concentration higher impacts are expected in long term period Keywords Air pollution modeling SO2 NOx AERMOD Air quality standards South ParsGas Field
