64 Optimization of Nanofibers Dye Absorption for Using in Solar Cells Fateme Rezvani f rezvani@tx iut ac ir December 2012 12 29 Department of Textile Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Dr S Abdolkarim Hosseini hosseinir@cc iut ac ir Dr H Khalili khalili@cc iut ac ir Abstract Dye sensitized solar cells DSSCs have attracted great interest as potential candidates of low cost solar cells in the solution of global energy demand Typical DSSCs consist of a dyed semiconductor TiO2 photo electrode a counter electrode and a redox electrolyte Dye sensitized oxide semiconductors as TiO2 SnO2 and ZnO are often used as porous photo electrodes If the used materials in photo electrodes are of nano scale particles or fibers a porous structure will be obtained Depend on the number of pores the actual surface area will become more than the apparent surface area In this case the amounts of adsorbed dyes increase and the increasing in light absorption will result consequently In the various researches it has been said that the photo electrodes will be dyed after layer adsorption Meaning the dying process will be done after all of the photo electrodes adsorbed on the layers of a material In this work during nano electrospinning using Titanium isopropoxide and also choosing a valid polymer with the spinning capability a Titanium dioxide poly vinyl pyrrolidine composite nanofibers were produced during nano electrospinning process Moreover the colored Titanium dioxide composite nanofibers were obtained using ceramic dyes Finally the optimized conditions for maximum dye absorption in nanofibers were analyzed To evaluate the effect of ceramic dyes on the electrical conductivity of nanofibers electrical conductivity of colored and uncolored nanofibers was measured Statistical test results showed no significant difference Then titanium dioxide nanofibers in red and black no color was obtained with removing the PVP polymer by heating process Comparison of FTIR spectra of composite nanofibers TiO2 PVP and nanofibers TiO2 showned that polymer have removed Using these kinds of nanofibers colored and uncolored Titanium dioxide nano rods were produced in order to be used in dye sensitized solar photo electrode cells We believe that simple energy efficient approaches such as the present one to fabricate TiO2 NR based DSSCs would help in their commercialization at low cost The results showed the highest efficiency of a kind of dye sensitized solar cells produced by Titanium dioxide composite nanofibers The value of efficiency for these solar cells calculated as 2 99 Key words dye sensitized solar cell electrospinning nano rod titanium dioxide PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www pdffactory com
