Fertigation as Affected by the Natural and Modified Zeolites Nooshin Shafiee n Shafiee2000@gmail com Data of submission January 19 2013 Department of Water Engineering Isfahan Univercity of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisors Behrouz Mostafazadeh Fard behrouz@cc iut ac ir Jahangir Abedi Koupai koupai@cc iut ac ir Abstract One of the important factors in agricultural production is existence of sufficient and usable nutrients for plant growth and among these factors nitrogen has a very special role In Iran during 1382 83 more than 60 percent of all chemical fertilizers that were used were nitrogen fertilizers The waste of nitrogen fertilizers due to low efficiency of using fertilizers has caused environmental problems such as pollution of surface and groundwater by nitrate or ammonium In this study the influence of fertigationas combination of urea ammonium nitrate natural zeolite of Semnan CP and modified zeolite by surfactant SMZ in reduction of waste and manure fertilizer were evaluated Two separate experiments with a completely randomized design with three replications were used for loam soil columns Treatments consisted of four level sof zeolite application 0 4 8 and 16 gr Kg and a fertilization level with concentration of 60 mg per liter nitrate applying at three fertigations during six irrigations In the first part of study the role of nitrogen fertilizers infertigationas combination of urea and ammonium nitrate UAN for ordinary soil were examined in order to reduce the concentration of nitrate and ammonium in the drainage water and the results were compared with one of the fertigation application The results showed that the loss of fertilizer in form of nitrate reduced 40 percent for the UAN treatment for first period of fertigation Since the results of the first part of experiment showed that concentration of ammonium nitrate does not reduce to the same level as drinking water in the second partof experiment the soil amendments were used The measured nitrate removal showed that the highest nitrate removal was belonged to the SM16 treatment and it was equivalent to 90 percent The highest ammonium removal was belonged to the CP16treatment and it was 85 percent Therefore the use of fertigation as the combination of nitrogen fertilizers with soil amendments for conditions that there is potential of ground water pollution by nitrate leaching is recommended Keywords Natural zeolite modified zeolite surfactant leaching nitrate ammonium PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www pdffactory com
