Effect of different levels of clove bud in diets with different ratios of n to n unsaturated fatty acids on immunological responses intestinal histology and performance of laying hens Vahid Taheri Gandomani Vahidtg@yahoo com August Department of Animal Science College of Agriculture Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Amir Hossein Mahdavi mahdavi@cc iut ac ir Supervisor Hamid Reza Rahmani hrahmani@cc iut ac ir Abstract The current study was conducted to evaluate the effect of clove bud on performance egg quality small intestinal histology and immunological responses of laying hens fed on different levels of to fatty acids In this study a total of Loehmann brown hen layers of wk of age were randomly distributed among experimental of treatments with replicates of birds each Dietary treatments consisted of three levels of clove bud and and high and low levels of n to n ratio and that fed during a d feeding trial including days for adaptation period and days as main recording period Performance parameters including feed intake feed conversion ratio egg production percentage egg weight and egg mass were calculated in three times of d and total period of experiment At and d of experiment egg quality were evaluated To investigate of immunological response sheep red blood cells were injected in two times with d interval hens were bled and d after the first and second injection respectively Moreover d before the first SRBC injection Newcastle disease virus were injected and then blood sera were taken d after injection In addition differential leukocyte counts were evaluated at the end of experiment Furthermore at the end of experiment two birds of each cage were exsanguinated to evaluate the relative weight as well as jejunal morphology A reduction in dietary n to n ratio led to increase the relative weight of spleen P decrease eosinophils percentage P increase the secondary humoral response against SRBC P decrease ileal E coli and salmonella population P increase goblet cells P increase lamb egg P at the end of experiment and to improve egg yolk color P Although inclusion of clove bud caused a decrease in heterophil to lymphocyte ratio P an increase in the secondary titer against SRBC P a reduction in ileal microbial population P an improvement in intestinal health index P as well as a decrease in egg lambs dietary inclusion of clove buds resulted in an increase in the relative weight of spleen P a decrease in heterophil to lymphocyte ratio P an increase in the secondary antibody titer against SRBC and Newcastle virus disease P a reduction in ileal pathogen population P a decrease in egg lambs as well as an improvement in egg shell strength P Clove bud and n to n ratio combination had significant effects on the relative weight of heart P the secondary antibody titer against SRBC P ileal E coli population and salmonella P jejunal villi length P lymphoid cell width P the number of lamb egg P at the first period of trial egg weight at the second period of trial P and egg shell strength at the end of experiment P The results indicated that the best immunological responses and performance of laying hens were observed when they supplemented by fish oil and the highest levels of clove bud However the best histological responses attributed to birds received the lowest n to n ratio and of clove bud These results strengthen synergythic relation between polyunsaturated fatty acids of fish oil and antioxidant properties of clove bud on physiological responses Keywords clove bud n to n ratio laying hens immunological responses jejuna histology PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www pdffactory com
