Effect of Dietary Zinc methionine and manganese methionine on Performance Immunological Responses Eggshell Microscopic Structure and Uterus Morphology of Laying Hens Shahrzad Ronasi ShahrzadRonasi@yahoo com September 17 2013 Department of Animal Sciences College of Agriculture Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IRANDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor H R Rahmani Prof h Rahmani@cc iut ac ir ABSTRACTThe study presented here aimed to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation of a combination oforganic zinc and manganese supplements on performance ultra structure of eggshell and uterus morphologyof laying hens A total of 180 LSL Brown layers were randomly assigned into the 9 experimental diets with 5replicates of 4 birds each Dietary treatments consisted of a 3 3 factorial arrangement with three dietary Zn methionine ZnMet levels 0 40 or 80 mg kg and three Mn methionine MnMet levels 0 50 or 100mg kg which fed during a 77 day feeding trial Average feed intake FI production percentage and eggsweight as well as feed conversion ratio FCR were recorded in the middle and at the end the experiment Atthe final trial day one bird per cage was slaughtered and uterus was collected in formalin solution Furthermore eggshells were collected to study microscopic ultra structure and to evaluate mineralcomposition Also antibody production titer against Newcastle disease virus NDV was measured afterrespective antigen inoculation Results showed that egg production increased P 0 01 during the first second and entire trial period by both dietary supplementation of ZnMet and MnMet Egg mass increased P 0 01 as the result of incremental Zn level during all trial periods but the highest difference was obtainedby Zn supplementation up to 40 mg kg of diet The significant Zn by Mn interaction was observed P 0 01 for FCR values during all experimental stages so that Zn fortification of diets was more effective when dietsalready supplemented with Mn Moreover feed intake was affected by different treatments p 0 01 Experimental diets did not affect egg quality such as breaking strength fracture toughness off egg shellhaugh unit yolk index yolk color and egg weight Also Organic Zinc and Manganese had no significanteffect on white blood cell count Dietary Mn supplementation up to 100 mg kg increased P 0 05 antibodytiter against NDV Also incremental levels of Mn up to 100 mg kg and Zn up to 40 mg kg tended to increase P 0 01 NDV antibody titer Incremental levels of Zn up to 80 mg kg increased P 0 05 both of eggshellash and calcium Electron microscopic examination of eggshells showed that supplementing ZnMet andMnMet in combination improved microstructure of shell s crystals Also using 40 mg kg ZnMet in dietssignificantly P 0 05 increased number of secretory cells in hen s uterus In addition the number of uteruscells was increased while the cell size was increased by dietary supplementation of 40 mg kg ZnMet Itmight be concluded that mineral additives particularly organic ZnMet and MnMet are able to improve thereproductive performance of laying hens Keywords Layer Chicken Zn met Mn met Antibody Titer Eggshell Ultra structure Uterus Morphology
