91Abstract Heterogeneous structure of functionally graded materials and gradual continuousvariation of these materials made them to find growing applications in different areas suchas heat shield gas turbine cover in order to reduce slate heat cover in gas motors components of heat exchangers plasma cover in nuclear components artificial bone electro magnetic fields etc According to these attractive applications many researcheshave been conducted during recent years In this thesis elastic plastic deformation of arotating hollow FGM cylinder is analytically studied based on small strain theory and forplane strain state Variation of elasticity modulus density and yield stress are assumed toobey power law functions of radial coordinate The maximum allowed angular velocity hasbeen defined as the angular velocity by which yielding initiates based on Tresca s yieldcriterion Material was assumed to obey Tresca yield criterion and its associated flow rule To evaluate and validate the presented analysis numerical results were compared withpreviously published results for homogeneous and for FGM cylinder with constant densityand yield stress as two special cases Then the effect of density and yield stress variation which was not considered in the previous researches on the elastic plastic deformation ofthe FGM rotating cylinder was investigated The results show that when the variation ofdensity and yield stress is ignored considerable differences may arise not only in themagnitude of computed radial displacement and stress and strain components but also inpredicting the pattern of yield initiation and also plastic zone development Due to bestknowledge of author density and yield stress variation were not taken into consideration inthe previously published researches of this problem It is shown that variable density andyield stress have considerable effect on behavior of the material KeywordsFunctionally Graded Material Rotating Hollow Cylinder Elastic plastic analysis Tresca sYield Criterion
