Manufacturing multiaxial fabric and investigation its tensile behavior Mohammad Amin Rahiminia Mohammadaminrahiminia@yahoo com Date of Submission 2013 04 29 Department of Textile Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 8415683111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor sajeli@cc iut ac irAbstractMultiaxial fabrics are the most important category of technical textiles because of spatial mechanicalproperty good flexibility and high production rate which make them significant in various commonweaving According to recent investigations numerous applications of multiaxial fabrics includecomposite materials construction sports equipment aerospace military automotive and shipbuilding Considerable improvements in research and production process of multiaxial fabrics showed that thesefabrics are important due to increasing added value also gaining new technologies in resistant textilesand industrial composites Because of sufficient application and noncrimp structure in this project thementioned fabrics are discussed here as a new technique to production of multiaxial fabrics In the first step the feasibility study for manufacturing multiaxial machine has discussed Ultimately we use the parts of a sewing machine to make alterations in tufting machine The multiaxial fabrics areproduced using standard methods and high strength nylon filament yarn by design and construction ofspecial frame The uniaxial tensile tests were performed on specimens and the tensile behaviors ofmultiaxial fabrics were analyzed using data obtained from the uniaxial tensile tests Finally data wereinvestigated by statistical methods Results demonstrate that there is no significant difference between the mean of maximum and theminimum levels of strength This may be due to the stitching direction positioned perpendicular to theset yarns A theoretical equation used in order to investigate the tensile behavior of multiaxial fabricsin yarns aligned in a direction which differ from other directions of layers However results obtainedfrom this equation were not consistent with experimental data Also these results suggested that themultiaxial fabrics in different directions do not have equal strength so the fabric do not displaycomplete isotropic behavior and has sufficed tensile strength just with layers of yarn Keywords technical textiles multiaxial fabrics tufting uniaxial tensile strength layup process
