816Genetic Diversity and Effect of Drought tolerance in Species of Brassica Brassica spp Fatemeh Rashidi f rashidi67@yahoo com Submitted on 2013 Department of Agronomy and Plant Breeding Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M S Language FarsiSupervisors Mohammad Mahdi Majidi majidi@cc iut ac irAbstractThe present research is aimed to evaluate genetic variation and drought stress tolerance inBrassica species using morphological and physiological traits Genetic materials involved36 genotypes from seven species of Brassica genus which evaluated within threemoisture treatments non stressed moderate stress and sever stress in years 2012 2013 Results of variance analysis indicated higher variation among genotypes in most ofstudied traits The highest and least genetic and phenotypic variation coefficient under allthree moisture treatments were related to number of pods in main stem and days toripening respectively Cultivar by environment interaction for most traits was significant suggesting various genotypes responses to moistures Under stressed conditions mosttraits means were reduced compared to non stressed conditions however those traitsmean such as aphid sensitivity and proline concentration was increased under moderateand sever stress conditions Chlorophyll and carotenoid concentration were increasedwhen they exposed to moderate stress compared to sever one The highest broad senseheritability was related to traits pod length 99 days to flowering 97 and onethousand grain weight 90 whereas the least was recorded for panicle diameter 22 and number of secondary branches 35 Grain yield mean under moderate and severedrought stresses was calculated about 30 96 and 47 42 respectively but it was notsignificant under moderate stress Among studied species B napus showed highest yieldunder all treatments Under non stressed condition B rapa exhibited the least yield butB friticulosa had much yield losses under moderate and sever stressed conditions Among species B nigra showed the least aphid sensitivity Coefficient of correlationshowed that under non stressed conditions there was significant and positive correlationbetween grain yield to days to ripening stem diameter number of secondary branch and
