Surface functionalization of silica nanoparticles by using N trimellitylimido L amino acids and its application for the synthesis of poly amide imide SiO2 nanocomposites derived from 4 4 diamino diphenylether and N trimellitylimido L methionine amino acid Fateme Marefatpour F Marefatpour@yahoo com 6 January 2014 Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Prof Shadpour Mallakpour E mail mallak@cc iut ac ir mallak777@yahoo com mallakpour84@alumni ufl edu Abstract In this work silica nanoparticles SiO2 NPs were modi ed by chiral diacids as coupling agentsunder ultrasonic irradiation The hydroxyl groups on the surface of SiO2 NPs interact with acidgroups of the coupling agents The interaction between NPs and diacids was confirmed by severaltechniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy FT IR thermogravimetry analysis TGA X ray diffraction XRD field emission scanning electron microscopy FE SEM andtransmission electron microscopy TEM In other investigation novel optically active poly amide imide SiO2 nanocomposites PAI SiO2 NCs containing L methionine moiety were successfullysynthesized via a simple and inexpensive ultrasonic irradiation process For this purpose at the first PAI was emplayed as polymer matrix and was synthesized by direct poly condensation reaction ofN trimellitylimido L methionine with 4 4 diamino diphenylether in molten tetra n butylammonium bromide as solvent and triphenyl phosphite as a green condensing agents TGA dataindicated an improvement in thermal stability of the polymer NCs compared to the pure polymer From TEM images of PAI SiO2 NCs it can be observed that the modified SiO2 NPs with diametricsize of less than 15 nm uniformly dispersed in the obtained PAI matrix FE SEM images of NCsshowed that the most of the NPs are uniformly dispersed on the surface of PAI matrix Key word SiO2 nanoparticles Chiral Ultrasonic irradiation Nanocomposites Thermal stability Biodegradability
