223 Basic platform design of class A vehicle with its dual power transmission system design and performance analysis Mohammad Reza Mobarhani mr mobarhani@me iut ac ir December 18 2013 Department of Mechanical Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Dr M Esfahanian mesf1964@cc iut ac ir Abstract The class A vehicles are widely considered nowadays in order to improve energy efficiency and reduce air pollution By investigating the domestic car market and needs of the community the need to produce and deliver a car with class A platform is recognized To meet these needs the codification process of the basic platform of national class A vehicle has been started to help developing the final product via conducting various design subprojects In fact the basic platform is the basis for defining subprojects in different areas of the design process Also a design software is used for achieving its general form Vehicle weight and other required parameters are calculated first Then in order to complete the conceptual platform power transmission system analysis and design is performed through which the proper ICE is selected After modeling and dynamic analysis suitable gear ratios for the transmission according to automotive performance characteristics such as slope climbing acceleration maximum speed low fuel consumption and emissions is designed Furthermore the above procedure is used for designing an electric power train for this platform Finally the effects of electrical components loads on the vehicle performance in both models are discussed Ways to achieve a common platform for both drive trains is described CATIA and ADVISOR soft wares are used for CAD and design of the propulsion system respectively In the domestic car market none of the three national brands own a native class A platform in their products Therefore this research and its implementation has great importance for having a class A platform in domestic products In addition technical know that is achieved in this study would be valuable for designing class A dynamic subsystems The created model in the ADVISOR software can be used for future design stages of this platform Key Word Class A automobile Platform based design The propulsion system Acceleration Fuel consumption Emissions
