Optimizing the Effective Parameters on the Bulked Silk Yarn for Tendon and Ligament Scaffold Mostafa Ghiasi m ghiasi@tx iut ac ir Date of Submission 2013 Department of Textile Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Dr Dariush Semnani d semnani@cc iut ac ir ABSTRACT Today s textiles are used in various widespread fields of human life in which it isnot possible to live without effective use of the textile products Accordingly inrecent years textile materials role plays in medical applications as the medical textileproducts According to the previous researches fibrous scaffolds do not havebiological and synthetic graft limitations Hybrid biodegradable polymer scaffoldswith composition of nano microfibers are in great interest of textile structures Thistype of hybrid scaffolds benefits mechanical strength and good integrity due tomicrofibers and high specific surface water due to nanofibers The purposes of this research are design modeling and optimization of bulked yarnfor using in hybrid scaffold with fibroin nanofiber coating on yarn for tendon andligament scaffold applications In this study the decision matrix and analyticalhierarchy process AHP have been used for choosing the suitable yarn for tendonand ligament scaffold From twisting method bulked silk yarns were twisted togetherand were coated with fibroin nanofibers on to surface of final scaffold byelectrospinning mechanism The results of mechanical tests indicates that the desired mechanical properties ofscaffold can be achieved by using bulked silk yarn manufactured by using air nozzlepressure 40 psi and production velocity 80 m s in final tendon and ligament scaffoldstructure while the mechanical behavior of the designed scaffold was very similar tothe original tendon of middle aged people Keywords Optimization AHP MCDM Bulked silk yarn Tendon and ligament scaffold
