Studying the Effect of Green Space and Impervious Surfaces on Thermal in Isfahan city Pattern Azam Aghayari a Aghayari@na iut ac ir Date of Submission 2014 01 23 Department of Natural Recourcese Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Alireza Soffianian soffianian@cc iut ac irAbstract Population growth and urbanization are the factors contributing to the increase of air temperature inurban areas which creates heat islands in this region compared to the surroundings In fact warmingthe urban environment is one of the unconscious effects of unsustainable urban development Examining the status of scattering of thermal radiation and its relationship with the type of the landuse is of the paramount importance to identification of the urban microclimate Temperature is afactor that will affect from the environmental condition and surface coverage and also is considered asan indicator of environmental quality On the other hand land use planning as the core of the urbanstudies is the searching set of strategies for the environmental social and ecological city towards thegoals of sustainable development Therefore the influence of the rate of urban land use in theformation of heat islands can be facilitating a way to urban strategies to controlling or reduction HeatIsland In this study in addition of emphasis on the impact of impervious surfaces and green cover onthe temperature model in Isfahan land use map for the 1364 until 1389 is provided by using theimages of Landsat TM satellite in 9 classes and then were studied changes of various land use classes The results of change detection are proven to reduce the green cover increasing urban area andpassages with increasing the percentage of impervious surfaces In the third step Land surfacetemperature was obtained by using a Mono Window algorithm that LST was showing the positiverelation with impervious surface and negative relation with green cover Results indicate increasingthe Land surface temperature of Isfahan city during 1364 to 1389 that this increase is significant inurban areas The next step the temperature was obtained by using transfer function Garcia and theeffect of surface coverage and land use is studied on temperature In the last step for showing theaccuracy the temperature map was compared with results obtained from zonation plan of park andgreen spaces organization of Isfahan The results showed that the general trend of temperaturevariation according to surface coverage land use and conditions in each station will follow thetemperature variation in weather station on that Finally due to the increase in impervious surfacesand reducing the area of green cover it can be conclude that the changes of this land use has a significant role in increasing the temperature of the Isfahan city Keywords Heat Island Land surface temperature land use Air temperature Isfahan city
