112 Direct use benefits estimation of Freydoonkenar Rice Farmland Ranch compared to its habitat value Seyyed Mojtaba Ravari Sm Ravari@na iut ac ir Date of Submission 2014 22 01 Department of Natural Resources Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Mahmoudreza Hemami Mrhemami@cc iut ac ir Seyyed Alireza Mousavi Sarmousavi@cc iut ac irAbstract Economic valuation of wetlands is going to find that preferences of the people for changes in wetlandsstatus and its belonging resources Fereydoonkenar Damgah FD as a man made system is located withinFereidoon kenar artificial wetlands site This area hosts a large population of migratory birds includingthe Siberian Crane during the winter Due to increasing trend of natural wetlands degradation in Iran therole of the artificial wetlands in biodiversity conservation can be appreciable more than ever This study isaiming to determine the habitat value and direct use values of FD Habitat value was estimated usingcontingent valuation and double bounded dichotomous choice method DBDC Sample size wascalculated using a pre test questionnaire and Cochrans equation 370 questionnaires were fulfilled during2 months field survey within Fereydoonkenar county The logic model was used to measure individualswilling to pay Both linear and logarithmic forms were estimated to calculated the model After stepwiseremoval of non significant variables the linear model was chosen according to different criteria including MacFaddn R2 statistics Akaike info criterion Schwartz criterion and Hannan Queen criterion likelihood ratio accurate prediction rate and classic regression assumptions Estimated parameters of themodel are based on maximum likelihood ML method Results show that the community is willing topay 3 23 USD per Household per year for conserving this habitat Considering the number of householdsin Fereidoon kenar city 17 580 total habitat value of FD was calculated 697 486 500 Rials 56891 23USD per year Direct use values bird hunting and rice cultivation were also estimated using marketvaluation method To determine the market value of the direct use 46 farmers and 59 hunters wereinterviewed in the study Net profit belonging to the rice harvest in the first semester and hunting of birdin the autumn and winter were estimated 2128188000 and 2460872100 Rials respectively Totaleconomic value of these direct and indirect functions calculated to be 5286546600 Rials that 13 2 ofwich is belonging to habitat value 40 26 is to rice cultivation and 56 54 is to bird hunting was Giventhe resolt direct beneficiaries were distinguished as the largest stakeholder Low attitude of respondentsto pay for conserving habitat function of FD shows that this financial resource ins not sufficient andeffective for sustainable conservation of FD especially by considering to the private property right of theareaKeywordsFereydoon kenar Damgah Use value Habitat value Contingent valuation Biodiversity Conservation
