Effects of Magnified Municipal Effluent on Some Soil Properties in Furrow Irrigation Amin Ramesh Amin ra ab@yahoo com January 15 2014 Department of Water Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiAlireza Soltani Todeshki soltaniar@cc iut ac irAbstractDue to the water crisis wastewater reuse is an effective method in order to resolve crop waterrequirements and decrease environmental pollution In order to study the impact of treated and magneticwastewater on the soil properties a refined research was conducted in randomized complete block designwith three irrigation treatments including wastewater magnetic wastewater and normal water infour replications Soil samples were taken from two surface and subsurface soil layers and at the upperand the downstream of each furrow The results indicated that based on the amount of soil salinity therewas no significant difference between treatments statistically however considerable changes in theincreasing of salinity were observed on subsurface layers resulting from the application of magnifiedwastewater This is probably due to the increasing salt portability of magnified wastewater andaccumulation of salts in the lower soil layer The soil pH was also affected by wastewater and wasdecreased However magnetizing the wastewater had no considerable effect on soil pH Evaluating theapparent specific gravity of soil in different water quality treatments showed that this soil property wasincreased effectively at the upperstream part of the furrow Similar results was also observed in the fieldcapacity but more fluctuations were observe Simultaneously wastewater treatment showed decreasingeffects on soil capacity of holding water during the time which can be attributed to the increasing of soilorganic matters It seems that the high fluctuations between different design blocks is related to thegravelly nature of soil Also the statistical analysis of the relative changes in the roughness coefficientdid not show any significance difference However decreasing in the roughness coefficient has beenobserved in the irrigation season This was expected because of the smoothing furrow bed and the effectof organic matters of wastewater on it Intensification or weakening effect of these changes was not evenaffected by magnetic Keywords Wastewater magnetic soil characteristics roughness coefficient irrigation
