202 Steady State Analysis and Optimum Rating Selection of Interline DVR Majid Moradlou m moradlo@ec iut ac ir April 23 2014 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology 84156 83111 Isfahan Iran Hamid Reza Karshenas Supervisor karshen@cc iut ac ir Mehdi Moallem Advisor moallem@cc iut ac ir Mohammadali Khosravifard Department Graduate Program Coordinator Associated Prof of Isfahan University of Technology Power Group Prof of Isfahan University of Technology Power Group AbstractThis thesis is concerned with the steady state analysis of Interline Dynamic Voltage Restorer IDVR undervarious balanced and unbalanced voltage variations Dynamic Voltage Restorers DVRs are classified asCustom Power devises and mainly used to combat voltage variations in distribution networks When a DVRis to be used for the compensation of deep and or long voltage sags then the use of energy storage devicesbecomes indispensable Many critical loads or load areas are supplied by more than one feeder In such cases if it is planned to install DVR in more than one feeder then the dc link of multiple DVRs can connectedtogether Therefore the active power can be exchanged between various DVRs This scheme is calledInterline DVR or IDVR By using IDVR the compensation range of each feeder can be substantiallyincreased without the need for energy storage devices In this research the equations governing the steady state operation of IDVR are obtained Consequently the constraints associated with an IDVR operation areobtained and an algorithm is developed to calculate the compensation range of an IDVR In this research anapproach for calculating the rating of DVRs employed in an IDVR is presented such that the sum of ratedkVA of DVRs is minimized This is carried out in such a way that all types of balanced and unbalancedvoltage variations are taken into consideration simultaneously Compensation range calculation and optimumration selection of IDVR is also evaluated when both feeders are under the faulty condition Unbalancedloads are also considered in steady state analysis of IDVR Keyword Power Quality Voltage Variation DVR IDVR Compensation IntroductionVoltage variations are among power quality events that cause substantial damage toconsumers with sensitive loads These disturbances are normally caused by system faults load variations energization of large loads and poorly designed systems Differentmethods have been traditionally available to combat voltage variations such as tap changing transformers constant voltage transformers and Uninterruptible Power Supplies UPS Moreover the so called Custom Power devices like Static Transfer Switches STS Distribution STATCOM or D STATCOM Unified Power Flow Controller UPQC and
