Energy Efficient Resource Allocation in Downlink OFDMA Networks Samaneh Bidabadi s bidabadi@ec iut ac ir Date of Submission 2014 7 13 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Mohammad Javad Omidi omidi@cc iut ac irAbstractFuture wireless systems are designed to meet high data rates and a variety of services such asvoice video etc which consume more energy Due to limited battery resources of mobiledevices and high operating cost of high energy consumption in base station power efficiencyhas become increasingly important in future wireless communication networks Too manyattempts have been done in wireless networks to achieve high Spectral Efficiency However high spectral efficiency does not necessarily result in high energy efficiency Therefore designing energy efficient systems in recent years has become an inevitable trend Also thedesign of energy efficient OFDMA networks has attracted much attention recently OFDMA a multi user OFDM scheme is a popular technology for high speed data transmission in awireless multiple access network Resource allocation in OFDMA networks is usingresources in an optimal frequency and power In this thesis the formulation of the problem ofEnergy Efficient Resource allocation for OFDMA networks in the downlink direction aresource allocation algorithm that in which subcarriers are assigned using MDSA and poweris assigned using BPA algorithm are examined Then optimal power is achieved using theproposed technique instead of using BPA algorithm In the two methods subcarrier allocationis similar to MDSA algorithm but power is assigned respectively using a genetic algorithmand a nonlinear programming method sequential Quadratic programming or SQP instead ofBPA The results illustrated poor performance of genetic algorithm Also in the SQP energyefficiency is higher compared to values obtained using BPA Moreover the simulation resultsshow less simulation time for the proposed method compared to BPA Keywords OFDMA Networks Resource Allocation Energy Efficiency SQP Method
