75 Application of machine vision in profile projector instrument for automation and improvement of precision and quickness of holes measurement in objects Hamidreza Jafari Hamidrezajafari66@gmail com Date of Submission 2014 09 22 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor behzad nazari nazari@cc iut ac ir Dr Rasoul Amirfattahi fattahi@cc iut ac irAbstract Today manual or semi automatic systems are replaced with automatic systems to increase speed accuracy and efficiency To this end the use of machine vision and image processing techniques are veryuseful The aim of this project is to automate and increase the measurement accuracy and speed of profileprojector machine In this machine the object is placed on the table then the light source emits directly intothe object and the enlarged shadow of the object appears on the device screen with the aid of two magnifyinglenses The user commands the motors to change the position of table such that different points ofholeshadow coincide with the central point of screen Coordinates of these points is tranfered into thecomputer through digital rulers installed on the device Using the coordinates of these points thespecification of the corresponding circle is calculated In this project to avoid influence of visual error onmeasuring system digital image processing techniques are used So the position of the holes is given to thesystem in two ways In the first approach the object map information is given directly to the designedsoftware In the second approach the desired circles are selected using the image of the object taken by acamera In both methods Hough circle detector algorithm is employed to detect the initial location andradius of circles After accomplishing the automated measurement of circles some important specificationslike diameter center coordinates and deviation from ideal circles is obtained automatically with highaccuracy and speed Many useful options such as determination of distances and angles between circles isadded to the program to assist the operator in his tasks and giving complementary results Finally themeasurement has been done accurately Keywords Automation Circle measurement Profile projector Machine Vision
