Analysis and optimal control of linear multi delay systems using a hybrid of block pulse functions and Lagrange interpolating polynomials Hoda Pirmoradian h pirmoradian@math iut ac ir 2014 Department of Mathematical Sciences Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Supervisor Dr Hamid Reza Marzban hmarzban@cc iut ac ir 2010 MSC 05C15 53C42 Keywords multi delay systems Lagrange interpolating polynomials block pulse functions Abstract This thesis is concerned with the numerical solution of optimal control problems with multipledelays in both state and control variables Many real life phenomena and practical systems can bemodeled by various types of delay di erential equations DDEs Typical examples are aerospaceengineering transmission lines chemical processes climate models population dynamics robotics nuclear reactors economics communication networks biological models manufacturing processes andpower systems The optimal control problem for linear systems with delays is still open dependingon the delay type speci c system equation criterion etc It is well known that except for somesimple cases it is either extremely di cult or impossible to analytically solve an optimal controlproblem involving multiple delays Indeed the presence of delay makes analysis and control designmuch more complicated The application of Pontryagin s maximum principle to the optimization ofcontrol systems with time delays results in a system of coupled two point boundary value probleminvolving both delayed and advanced terms Therefor the main object of all computational aspectsof optimal control of time delay systems has been to devise a methodology to avoid the solution ofthe mentioned two point boundary value problem It is worth noting that the corresponding solutionto this class of systems is a piecewise smooth functions In other words the analytical solutionsof multi delay systems are di erent functions on the distinct subintervals Accordingly none of the
