Modeling and Simulation of Condensers in UF6 Separator Unit Fatemeh mohamadi Fatemeh mohamadi@ce iut ac ir Date of submission 22 september 2014 Department of Chemical Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Prof Seyyed Mohammad Ghoreishi ghoreshi@cc iut ac irAbstractIn this study modeling and simulation of two in series UF6 separator condensers was performed to improvethe previous models for prediction of the amount of mist output physical properties of condensing gases andcondensed mass of UF6 These two shell and tube condensers were modeled via control volumes with finitelength in axial direction of input gases The equations of mass energy and momentum balance were writtenfor each of the condensers and then surface temperature of UF6 condensed layer on the condenser tube wasdetermined by trial and error method The temperature total mass of condensed UF6 in the condensers gascomposition and physical properties concentrations of the mist and the mass and heat transfer parameterswere calculated at each time step during the process Comparison of the modeling predictions with Isfahan UCF industrial data in regard to important variablesindicated a very good compatibility The average error between the modeling and industrial data for the firstand second condenser were calculated to be 1 39 and 2 24 respectively Key WordsUranium hexa fluoride Condensation Condenser Modeling
