58 Synthesis and characterization of heterogeneous copper nanocatalysts over hydroxyapatite and its application for hydroxylation of phenol Alireza Shahzeydi a shahzeydi@ch iut ac ir September 2014 Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Lanquage FarsiSuperviser Prof Mehran Ghiaci mghiaci@cc iut ac irAbstract A series of heterogeneous copper nanocatalysts supported on calcined cow bonesynthesized via osmosis and impregnation methods and characterized by different analysissuch as FT IR UV Vis FE SEM BET surface area ICP and etc The nanocatalyticactivity of this nanocatalysts has tested in hydroxylation reaction of phenols by H 2O2 anddifferent parameters of this reaction investigated in aqueous media under mild conditions For analysis of reaction products high performance liquid chromatography technique andgas chromatography technique is used Results indicated that the selective oxidation ofphenol with H2O2 by a radical substitution mechanism produces three main reactionproducts Catechol Hydroqinone and Resorcinol The nanocatalysts have the advantage ofvery cheap supports and easy nanocatalyst recovery The effects of Cu atomic ratio reaction time temperature amount of catalyst and the type support on the conversion ofphenols yields were investigated Under the optimized conditions 20mg catalyst showed amaximum of 93 3 phenol conversion and 92 24 selectivity for hydroquinone Also wegot the 97 96 resorcinol in the harsh condition Keyword heterogeneous copper nanocatalyst oxidation hydroxylation phenol
